Olek Preserve

At the last Portland Duck Unlimited Dinner auction, Bruce and I won an all day preserve hunt at Olek Preserve, which is just off the Columbia River Gorge. The weather was perfect and the ride up thru the Gorge, as always, was gorgeous. Jinx, despite no training as an upland dog, did pretty good. He was much better flushing quail and chukar out of the bushes then he was working cornfields for pheasants and it was pretty funny to watch him poke at the birds with his nose to get them up once he figured it out. I did ok as well, as I've never managed to land an upland bird in the few times we've been out. We ended up with 8 quail, 3 chukar and 5 pheasants for the day. It was a beautiful day all around.
