Not an auspicous start

This did not make me so happy.

Our house has been feeling a bit humid the last week or so. We thought at first that it might be because we've been using the Rug Doctor a lot to clean carpets lately (thank you, Jinx, the not quite so housebroken puppy). Then I opened our coat closet to pull out a coat and it felt slightly moist and smelled a bit musty. "Babe, we (really meaning you) should check the crawlspace to see if we have a broken pipe. It still feels really humid in here." Upon opening the trap door, we were greeted with a wave of warm humid air and the sounds of water running. A hot water pipe had broken.

The crawlspace under the entire house had an inch to two of standing water and the entire insulation was literally dripping wet. We needed to rip out all the insulation from the crawlspace. Oh, and to make it extra fun and special, as if ripping out fiberglass insulation in a dark, wet crawlspace for eight hours on one of the first beautiful warm weekend days wasn't special enough, about and hour or so into it, Bruce had some news: "Hey, I found the hole where the mice have been getting into the house at."  Make that a dark, wet, mouse pee and shit smelling itchy fiberglass filled crawlspace for eight hours.

  2. Yes it did. On the plus side, I got to hang out with my husband all day. It was a bonding experience.
